Developing and putting into practice a culture of training for gospel ministry
This series of interviews and talks on training culture reflects something of what is beginning to happen in the Church in Scotland. We pray these short films will also be of service to the UK and world-wide church.
1. An overview of training for gospel ministry
Robin Sydserff, Roger Day & Jay Parsons
This introductory discussion considers how Jesus’ commission to go and make disciples of all nations puts training gospel workers at the heart of the Church’s purpose.
2. Who to train and where can we find them?
Robin Sydserff, Roger Day & Jay Parsons
Building on the introductory discussion, this video seeks to answer the questions, who exactly are we training, what are we training them to do, and where are we training them? The fundamental premise is that the primary responsibility to train lies with the local church, and that a healthy training culture is normal.
3. A short overview of the emerging strategy for church renewal in Scotland
Robin Sydserff
If the aim is a healthy gospel church for every community in Scotland, what are the lines of strategic effort to that end? Five are identified and discussed: training leaders for local churches; planting new churches, revitalizing ailing churches, and resourcing established churches; infrastructure; legal issues, and sacrificial giving.
4. A detailed review of key themes for gospel ministry training
Robin Sydserff
Building on the short overview in video 3, this video expands on lines of strategic effort.
5. An interview with a Leader-in-Training
Robin Sydserff & Will Sanders
This discussion illustrates how leaders emerge from within a local church, and traces the calling, pathways, and experience of one leader-in-training. It also illustrates different training options for other candidates.
6. An interview with Ministry Apprentices
Robin Sydserff, Esther Savage & Adam Wallace
This discussion reflects the calling, enthusiasm and joy of two ministry apprentices at an early stage of ministry training, and provides a great insight into their training pathway.
7. An overview of leadership roles and functions
Robin Sydserff, Roger Day & Jay Parsons
This discussion looks at equipping elders and small group leaders to train and teach the Bible to others, and how future church leaders may discover their vocation in such a culture of training.
