GRANTS

We provide grant funding for Ministry Apprentices and Leaders in Training. Read on to learn all about the funding options available through The Bonar Trust.

Applications for the 2024-25 year are now closed. Please check back in early February 2025 for applications for 2025/26.

WHY DO WE NEED FUNDING?

Funding people through their training is very important, enabling more people to get the training they need.  Funding supports a culture of rigour and quality in training, particularly when local churches are invested in, and taking responsibility for training.

Funding is a practical recognition of, and response to, the significant demands - financial and otherwise - that an extended period of training makes on an individual, a couple or a family. It enables people who otherwise would not have financial means to support themselves and their families to undertake a period of training. This is particularly important for people in their late twenties or early thirties, many with young children, who would like to train for vocational ministry, but don’t have a capital base that enables them to do so.  Means-tested funding throughout the period of training allows for more flexibility at the deployment end, recognising the variation in, for example, housing provision when new churches are started.

In addition, in the 2024/25 year, we were able to make a couple of small grants to churches ministering in deprived communities to enable them to meet their employment costs for trainees, which otherwise would not have been possible. Depending on outside funding, we hope to renew and extend this programme for 2025/6 and beyond. If so, we will issue an update online with details.

TRAINING

Training in preaching and handling God’s Word and how this responsibility is shared between the church and external training providers.

“ Thank you so much to the trustees for awarding this grant. This is such a blessing to us as a family as we transition into this new phase of life, and we pray it will all work to the glory of God. ”
