TRAINING
PATHWAYS
The Trust has focussed on developing two distinct pathways for training.
Basic training
An individual is enrolled in a two-year Apprenticeship programme (also referred to as Associate Training) in a local church alongside external study at, for example, Cornhill Training Course. This type of training is especially suited to those who are seeking to discern whether vocational ministry in the long-term is suited to them. The programme will include practical service and ministry experience in their local church alongside their studies.
Advanced training
An individual is enrolled in a three- or four-year Leader in Training programme in a local church alongside study at, for example, Edinburgh Theological Seminary, Cornhill Pastors’ Training Course or Crosslands Training.
The Trust supports two Leader in Training pathways:
Church Leader Training (also referred to as Minister or Pastor in Training)
Women in Ministry Training
These pathways are for those who are pursuing vocational church ministry in the long-term. Alongside their studies at seminary, Leaders in Training will receive opportunities in the local church to regularly teach the bible, lead ministry areas and be involved in pastoral work. We hope and pray that these leaders will also be equipped to train others once their training is complete.
For many people there is a period between Basic and Advanced Training. This could be working either in a secular job or in a ministry role, e.g. youth worker, student worker or UCCF staff worker.
